Automotive Manufacturing Plant, Burnaston, Derby
for Toyota
In conjunction with Ove Arup Partnership this development for Toyota was completed in 1992 following a presentation to the Royal Fine Arts Commission which needed to address significant environmental issues.
The project is on a 254 Ha former airfield site and this first phase has a capacity to produce 100,000 cars per year. Weedon Partnership llp provided concept and detail architectural services.
Four major processes are included in addition to the Administration Building:
- Press Metalwork
- Body Assembly
- Paint Work
- Final Assembly
In addition to the manufacturing facilities there is also an office administration building: the complex as a whole accommodates 1700 people.
Total footprint of the project is 213,700m² and the project was designed and completed within 24 months.
