The redevelopment of Birmingham city centre markets area and Bullring has provided the opportunity for a mixed use scheme comprising commercial restaurant and residential use within one of the most bohemian areas of Birmingham.
Weedon Partnership llp advocated the use of traditional materials in conjunction with a prefabricated lightweight steel framed structure to provide the 77 apartments over 5 floors above a ground floor podium forming the commercial/restaurant area. A weather-tight internal structure was quickly achieved thus allowing the external cladding to be taken off the critical path and shortening the contract period. This innovative solution has since been successfully used on several projects.
